Top 11 Sega Logo Animations
11) Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - In a massive leap from the first title and announcing the major step forward that Sonic 2 really was over the previous title, the logo made full use of the titular heroic mammal, and a kick-ass huge Sega logo. Speed, boldness and clarity rank this number 11 in my countdown.

10) Boogerman - Crude game, crude opening. This one featured Boogerman flatulently flying across the screen, bringing the S of the Sega logo into shot, before carrying onto the Interplay screen and flinging some snot at the player. The opening animation equivalent of a child with ADD, and always manages to raise a smile.

9) Taz-Mania - TAZ! EAT! LOGO! YUMYUMYUMYUMYUMYUMYUMYUM!

8) Vectorman - This logo was less humorous than most, but deserves to be on the list through the pioneering 3D emulation that is worked on the protagonist (quite literally with balls) balanced on the logo.

7) Aladdin - The Genie dressed as sport official, fires a starting pistol and blasts that damn-annoying parrot out of the skies in a highly satisfying cloud of feathers.

6) Eternal Champions - Blessed with a series of random intros, the opening featured the logo being ‘interfered with’ by the game’s fighters ranging from magical colour changes, to club smashes. A great intro to this suitably violent, and often overlooked beat-em-up. (Note – If emulating the game, you may find you only ever get one opening, which serves you right for not buying the game properly!)

5) Jurassic Park - The coolest dinosaur since Denver opens the Jurassic Park movie tie-in game with a mighty roar of “SEGA!” as the logo is on-screen. GENIUS! The ‘Rampage Edition’ took out the “SEGA!” roar, and replaced it with a normal one. NOT GENIUS! As my Mum often tells me, the older ones are better.

4) Comix Zone - The perfect intro to the perfect game as the normally blue logo is replaced with a stylish pencil
sketch and the villain’s hand completes the logo by pencil. Oh, and did I mention the rather nifty Elvis-alike “Sega, Sega” sample speech? No? Ah well I just did.

3) Spot Goes To Hollywood - A lump of rock is quickly chipped away to reveal a stunningly rendered monument to all things Sega. Spot is suitably smug, tossing his tool (steady!) until is drops on his toe. Art + Slapstick = Logo Entry #3

2) Beavis and Butt-head - Enter Butt-head stage right. Our infantile anti-hero swings a boxing glove on a stick (why oh why can these not be bought in the real world?) and smacks the logo with some gusto. Huhuhuhuhhh! That was cool!

1) Earthworm Jim - The king of platform comedy, in arguably the best platform game ever released on the Mega Drive, gets a very suitable intro as our hero flexes his muscles in the space suit, only to be embarrassed by a wardrobe malfunction. The game was
awesome and the intro makes its way to the top of this chart through sheer wit and determination. Even the sequel’s attempt could not better this perfect logo animation.
